Background

With the rising popularity of connected “smart” products, Oral-B released their SmartSeries electric toothbrush line with a connected mobile phone app to track and display real-time metrics when brushing like pressure, duration, and cleanliness. However, while millions use the SmartSeries electric toothbrush, data shows that the app use is in the low thousands.

How might we improve the Oral-B connected app experience and app content to encourage user habit formation and ultimately, increase user engagement?
